United Methodist Women

United Methodist Women: Come and enjoy a time of prayer, learning, and fellowship. Experience the many opportunities to answer the call of discipleship. We are always looking for women who are interested in serving. You don’t have to be a member of the church to join us in mission work. All are welcome.

The UMW meets on the 1st Saturday of each month at 10 am, September through June. Please check the church announcements for the meeting place.

Purpose of the United Methodist Women

The organized unit of United
Methodist Women shall be
a community of women whose
purpose is to know God and
to experience freedom as whole
persons through Jesus Christ; to
develop a creative, supportive
fellowship; and to expand
concept of mission through
participation in the global ministries of the church.

Whom Do We Help?

Those in need within Arlington County, Virginia, the Washington Metropolitan Area, and some in other parts of the World. Arlington Temple UMW answers the call of discipleship through contributions of time, talents and nurturing to those in need. Mission efforts may be one-time, short time or long-term.

Donations to local Non-Profit Organizations whose mission is to help women and children.
Birthing Kits and School Kits for UMCOR.
Summer Camp Scholarship for children of Arlington County.
Winter Coats, Scarves & Mittens for Kids.
Health Kits for homeless.
Special donations based on need to help children.

Monthly Meeting

Arlington Temple United Methodist Women meets monthly on the first Saturday of each month at 10:00 A.M. in the Fellowship Hall. Oftentimes, guest speakers come to present special programs. Recently we enjoyed Vera DeWeese, who is a wonderful Biblical Storyteller.

Reading Program

Our unit participates in the UMW Reading Program. The purpose of the Reading Program is to encourage UMW members to expand understanding of and participation in God’s mission; to grow in understanding of Scripture as it relates to Christian faith and to encourage critical thinking about issues facing humanity today. Our library offers a diverse number of books available to all who wish to participate in the program. Children are invited to participate in this program as well.

Adopt a Family in Need for Christmas: The United Methodist Women are working with Doorways, an Arlington-based organization that works with victims of domestic violence, to adopt a four person family for Christmas. Domestic violence violates trust in our most intimate settings—the family. Help re-build a child’s trust in God by ensuring they and their families experience the joy of Christ’s birth this day. Please make donations to the “UMW” and put “Doorways” in the notation line. Or give your contribution to Martha Gebrehewot by Dec. 15th.
