Serve the Church

Make A Difference

Service Opportunities In The Church

Every fall, we run a volunteer drive to encourage people to make a difference in the church community by signing up to serve. Some jobs are small, and some are large, but all make a difference when you use the gifts the Spirit has given you to make the church stronger and more compassionate. Because people move in and out of Rosslyn, we love it when people come and serve for a season, as their schedules or time in our community allow—so if you have an interest in any of the following roles, e-mail allierosnerbass@vaumc.org and let her know of your interest in serving God.

Greeters
Be a welcoming presence to everyone who comes through our doors. Arrive no later than 10:15 am, greet people at the door as they enter, hand out bulletins. During worship, watch for people who may come in late to greet them. During fellowship time after worship, welcome new folks, introduce new people to others and answer their questions about how to plug in to Arlington Temple.

Scripture Readers
Read Scripture in worship as scheduled, or as a sub when others aren't here. Pastor Allie will send you the text for the day by mid-week; be sure to practice at home, especially if there are any long Hebrew words!

Audio-visual Team
Facilitate worship by operating the audio-visual and lighting systems during the worship service. Our team uses MediaShout and we often use visual images or film to enhance the message. Training will given to new volunteers--if you have basic computer knowledge, it's not too hard to learn!

Hospitality Team
Prepare and bring food to welcome people during the fellowship time after the worship service. The job involves bringing food, setting up food and beverages before the service, and cleaning up after the hospitality hour. We love it when people help serve and clean up as well!

Choir
Lend your vocal or musical talents to the choir and music ministry of the church! Practices are one hour before and a half hour after worship each Sunday. Speak with Catherine Pruett, our music director, after church if you are interested in this ministry. Walk-ons are welcome at our 9:30 am Sunday morning practices. The choir room is at the top of the stairs--follow the voices!

Acolytes
A great way for children 8+ to serve is to open our worship by carrying the light of Christ into the sanctuary. Light candles at the beginning and extinguish them at the end of worship.

Communion Servers
Assist pastor in serving the communion elements during worship. We generally have communion on the first Sunday of the month and once in a while on special days.

Children’s Sunday School Teachers
Engage children in learning about how precious they are to God, and help them grow spiritually. Sunday School begins 10-15 minutes after worship begins. Teach the lesson for that Sunday based on the activities and material in a curriculum that Arlington Temple provides. All we need from you is a love for children and a desire to teach them about Jesus!

Office Assistance
If you are handy around computers, phone answering, or cheerfully folding bulletins, we can always use help in the office. Contact Divine in the church office at atumcoffice@verizon.net if you have gifts in office work.
